Happy New Year Reader !
Before we jump into New Years goals, I want to pause with you for a moment and talk about how we’re choosing what to aim for this year.
The new year is a popular time to reset, start fresh, and have “new year, new you” goals. Whether it’s business, relationship, weight loss or other health goals, there are plans and programs everywhere! It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of all the ads and promotions encouraging us to “be our best (fill in the blank)”.
Have you ever noticed that the gyms are filled the first few weeks in January? Then they sort of quiet down again by February. We’re conditioned to believe that we all need to get in shape as one of our big goals every year, but then most drop off within a few weeks because it wasn’t really their goal. We choose these goals because we’re conditioned to feel like we should choose these goals.
Let’s look at this a different way, from a Human Design perspective…
Generators & Manifesting Generators
Instead of picking goals from your head (because it’s January, because I’m supposed to, because everyone else is) and powering through using willpower, use your natural strategy and respond to what lights you up now.
Your angle: If your goals require you to convince yourself they are a good idea… that’s a clue it’s probably not your goal.
Reflections: What in my life am I genuinely responding to right now? What opportunities, ideas, invitations, are being presented to me right now that light me up?
Where am I using discipline or willpower to stay committed to something that my energy stopped responding to?
Projectors
Instead of setting goals that require constant output, proving, or self-promotion, wait for recognition and respond to invitations that feel correct.
Your angle:
If your goals assume you’ll be pushing nonstop to be seen, they’re probably misaligned.
Reflections:
Which of my goals ask me to stay visible, available, or “on” all the time?
What would need to change for this goal to feel sustainable rather than just impressive: fewer hours, clearer boundaries, or waiting for the right invitations instead of creating momentum on my own?
Manifestors
Natural initiation:
Instead of trying to justify or explain your goals to feel “allowed” to pursue them, act on internal urges and initiating when clarity hits, not when the calendar says so.
Your angle:
If your goals needed permission, approval, or consensus… they may not be yours.
Reflection:
Which of my goals did I choose after explaining them, rather than feeling an internal urge to move?
If I removed the need to explain or justify this goal, would I still want it?
Reflectors
Instead of locking in long-term commitments on January 1 because everyone else is, let clarity emerge over time and align with the right environment.
Your angle:
If your goals don’t leave room for change, they’re ignoring how you’re designed to move.
Reflection:
Did I let these goals come into focus naturally, or did I decide too quickly?
Am I allowing this goal to evolve as I do, or am I holding it fixed out of obligation?
This time of year invites action, but January is better used for observation. So before you commit to anything, give yourself permission to watch what your energy actually does - even if it challenges what you thought you wanted.
